What Balenciaga did this time is not the matter of bad taste or contempt, or any combination of those, even though they are both present. The fact is that Balenciaga's executives weighted pros and cons (what they are likely to win versus what they are going to lose) of the camping based on child exploitation and decided that it is worth it. Profitable. That was all that mattered. And they were right - anyone who may not have known the brand, does now. Controversy generates publicity like nothing else. They are well aware of that. As they are well aware that there will be no real consequences for any of them. Tomorrow, heck by the evening the world will move to a new scandal, some new controversy or slaughter, take your pick. The question no body seems concerned with is - what was the cost of parental consent for their child to partake in campaign? Children did not have any say and cannot decide for themselves. That is the key difference from any other group, including refugees.
