In the kitchen,
her eyes simmer with memories
of her bent and burdened mother
making eggplant stew.
My wife stirs in the flavors of her heritage,
 creating an art form passed down for generations.
There are no recipes,
 just taste, intuition, and her mother’s longsuffering love.
 We sit at the table
 and savor the spice and subtle sweetness of nostalgia.
