I enjoyed reading your response, very much indeed. Especially since I too am a fan of Robert Sapolsky. I didn’t mean to imply that ‘tribalism’ is static, unchangeable feature of humanity. Only that it is, as you also noted, developed as a form of protection and, ultimately, survival of the species. The issue, so to speak, is how to not necessarily overcome it, since many have tried but thus far none have succeeded in the long run, but rather transform it into a positive force. Force for good. That, in my view, is the challenge and a very big challenge at that since ‘surveillance capitalism’ has every interest to support (read – finance) exactly the opposite. Which it is doing with outstanding success. Once the pain of participating becomes greater than the pain of not participating – the change (might) happen. I do wish for it.
